Pros: Indepth articles and terrific recipes Cons: no color photography (if that's important to you)
"One of the best magazines ever published for cooks who want to why recipes work or don't work. Great product reviews and interesting articles. I have every issue published since 1993 and refer to them all the time."

Pros: Very Detailed, Product Reviews & Rankings Cons: Only 6 issues, slightly expensive
"Aside from the recipe itself, an article is provided explaining how to cook the food and which items can/can not be exchanged/removed and the effects on the taste or overall recipe if they are made. Also provides product reviews on equipment and food brands that will most likely be used during the recipe (these reviews are just as thorough). Illustrations are also provided for help. Every recipe I've tried has came out great!"

Pros: Precise, correct instructions. Cons: Not enough of it.
"From the editorial to the last page, it is by far the best magazine for cooks. I love the feel of it, the set up of the articles. And I love started off by reading the reflections of its editor. It takes me back to a simpler time. I love the advice from readers and how to use kitchen gadgets and others tools in different ways. I love reading about the process in how the authors reached the final product in the test kitchens. I've never been disappointed in my efforts to re-create the recipes offered."

Pros: Very informative, explains how they arrived at the end receipe Cons: None for me
"I am not a very good cook but I do like to cook, this magazine has given me new and easy receipes to try and they explain how they arrived at the receipe, why they used certain ingredients and what went wrong with others. I would have liked to have this 37 yeas ago when I got married."

Pros: Explanations of how things work in cooking Cons: One 6 issues a year

Pros: Has no adds. They try many variations of a recipe and use the one that comes out the best Cons: expensive, but worth it
"I love this magazine so much that every year I give gift subscriptions to family and friends. There's no mistaking which version of the recipe is the best. They show, for example, several different ways the ingredients and quality of ingredients affects the final product. It might be shortening compared to using butter, or even the cooking method or the temperature used. At one time I was purchasing an ice cream maker, and after reading their reviews took the one I had just bought back to the store and got the Kitchen Aid mixer attachment. Turned out to be a successful purchase."

"what separates this from other favorite cooking magazines is that they try lots and lots of variations of each recipe and let you know their results and why they selected the final version. Highly recommend."

Cook's Illustrated,
July 26, 2006
By Jenniferfrom Albuquerque NM
"Cook's Illustrated is a fabulous magazine and the recipes are simply delicious. However, they start asking you to renew after the very first issue by saying that your subscription is "almost up"...drives me crazy!"
