Pros: Hoping for a comback as I renewed today. Fingers crossed

"I have had Southern Living Mag. for years and years. I always hate to miss a copy, hoping this is temporary and it will get back to what it used to be. I won't keep it for long if they don't improve. I'm just disappointed as it was a beautiful magazine until recently."

Pros: It's all about the South!
Cons: Horrible new format, cheap paper, ad-heavy, uninspiring recipes

"I am devastated! I have been reading Southern Living for at least 35 years. It was part of my life, my familiy heritage, my culture. I noticed the format change instantly and HATED it. Every month now I weep over the loss of a dear, treasured friend. The glorious magazine, whose many back issues I saved and refused to recycle, is not the beauty it used to be. I don't like the look, the feel, or the instant food recipes. Bring back the "southern" in Southern Living!! I've hemmed and hawed over renewing because I couldn't make the break, but I've finally decided not to renew. If the old format comes back, I will be a delighted return subscriber. PLEASE! Give us back our old Southern Living."

Pros: travel tips
Cons: articles too brief, poor pictures, print and paper quality

"Our family is saddened by the overall loss of quality of our favorite magazine. The anticipation of the mail carrier delivering an afternoon/evening of pleasurable reading is gone. As a midwesterner living in the south it was an invaluable resource for all things southern. It was a great find for this midwesterner turned southerner. Please renew it to its former glory so we can all happily renew our allegiance to SL. We hope SL is listening."

Pros: History of a great magazine
Cons: Now it's awful, hard to tell articles from ads

"I've subscribed to SL and for myself and my sister since 1983 and it saddens me to not renew my subscriptions this year, but it's no longer worth reading. It's hard to tell the articles from the ads. They break up articles with so many ads throughout. They put tiny, postage-stamp sized inset pictures within other pictures, which are pointless, as they're too small to see. I also have the Annual Recipe books since 1983 and I've contacted Oxmoor House to not send that this year. I used to look forward to receiving SL each month, and spent lots of time reading it. Now the way it's bound, and the content are just like the cheapo "home and garden" magazines that take 5 minutes to read, and have no worthwhile content. I'm looking for a new favorite magazine! I feel like I've lost a friend..."

Cons: Too many small info inserts. Not enough photos.

"I have been a subscriber to SL for over 10 years. Up until last year I couldn't wait to get the new issue in the mail. Now the magazine is just ho- hum. Some months it lays on the table for days before I pick it up.
It doesn't seem to flow smoothly now. It jumps around and has too many things on one page.
I would like to see the magazine back the way it was two or three years ago."

"Where is my Southern Living? I miss the old version terribly. My Mom and I have subscribed to SL for many years. I miss the old format. The stories about Southern Families, great recipes that you couldn't wait to try. Where is the Christmas magazine that used to be published? The special edition. Please, please, please, go back to the old Southern Living."

Cons: Garden and food sections not good anymore.

"I have subscribed to Southern Living since the late 1970's as have most of my friends. In the past two years it has changed - and not for the better. The recipes are not good and must not have been tested. We used to count on Southern Living recipes - no more. The pics of the recipes are misleading. I have been disappointed with all of those I have tried the past few years as have my friends. Hopefully SL will return to the quality of the past."

Pros: no longer any
Cons: an ad-filled waste of paper

"I cannot believe how terrible this magazine is now. I have always grown up with Southern Living and been a subscriber myself for the last 15 years. This past year has been a complete disappointment. The entire face of the magazine has changed, and not at all for the better. The fabulous recipes are gone, the real stories have disappeared and the decorative ideas have dried up. I am done with this magazine until some changes occur (just go back to the old format please). I am certainly sorry I renewed my subscription; it was a complete waste of money."

Pros: Magazine does concentrate on living in Southern states
Cons: Way too much advertising, and incidental info.

"Southern Living magazine unfortunately diminished in quality from when I first subscribed several years ago. It became overly thick and heavy but with advertising and not enough substance. It can be a truly great magazine that you look forward to receiving each month, but it needs to become a blend of down home folksy material on up to relavance to the affluent."

Pros: None, recently
Cons: New format; de-identification;

"I have subscribed since the inception of the magazine, saved back issues for years, & gave many subscriptions as gifts. I am so very disappointed with the recent issues that some have gone into the trash the day after I received them. I didn't realize there was such a daunting reason for the difference until recently (I blamed it on changes in my interests). Now I know, and it's doubtful that I will renew my subscription when it expires next year. I miss most the stories of actual families, their homes, their parties, their gardens, etc. with photos, interviews, recipes. And I agree with the woman who said she knew what was happening in Georgia & wanted to read about other places. Texas Monthly tells me all about Texas. Southern Living should tell me all about the South. You've changed the magazine drastically, and not for the better. Shouldn't be so hard to restore what wasn't broken in the first place!"

Pros: Was favorite book for years
Cons: Will not renew

"I have been very disappointed with my Southern Living magazines lately. I've been a reader for many years but I will not renew my subscription. It has turned into all advertisements with no real depth to the stories/pictures, etc.. Please return the magazine to the "OLD Southern Living" we are accustomed to reading!!!"

"I've subscribe to SL since the 70's. I had it made when I received your magazine on a Friday--then I would sit down and read it cover to cover. I would even put old copies in the car to pick up and reread when waiting in doctor's office and on long travels. but this new design is awful. You can't tell the ads from the articles. It's just not good any more. Please go back to the old format. Also my husband and I hate not getting the same magazine other states get. I know what's in Georgia, let me see what's going on everywhere."

"I have subscribed to Southern Living for many years. I also used to give them as gifts, but no more. The magazine has taken a turn for the worse. I have all of the annuals starting with 1979. I am through buying them also because of the types of recipes in them (not like they used to be). I just wish you hadn't changed you format and type of recipes. I am through with another highly rated food magazine for the very same reason."

Cons: Lightweight paper, fewer recipes

"Southern Living has been a favorite magazine of this family for many years. My mom subscribed and passed her copies on to my brother's family and mine. I have many of the recipe books from years past. It has been an extremely high quality magazine. I purchased June and July's issues from the newstand and have been somewhat disappointed at the quality and quantity of the magazine. Considering subscribing for my family, I was searching for a recipe, but was unable to access the website. What has happened to Southern Living? I think I'll wait for future issues to evaluate the current quality of the magazine before I subscribe."
