Pros: The pictures are fantastic. Lots of decorating ideas.
Cons: The special editions in addition to the regular subscriptsions are too much of a repeat.

"This was one of my favorite magazines (along w/ Real Simple and Organic Style). I think this magazine captured life as we want it today, focused on home and family and keeping life simple. It was a good break from the chaotic lifestyles we all lead and helps us set up our house in those homes that are not McMansions. I'm very disappointed to see it go."

Pros: Really fun magazine
Cons: would like to see more smaller cottages

"I really like it a lot I do wish they would have more different sizes cottages, I think they have a good concept they could kick it up a notch. The price is really great, I usually get it at the store but I may start a order for it."

Pros: Beautiful and well-done, just right for baby boomers looking for a smaller home
Cons: Too focused on the Eastern part of the U.S. As usual, pretty much ignores the Rocky Mountain region.

"This is a great idea for a magazine. Many of us are looking to move into a smaller, but very nice, home and this is the only magazine I have seen that addresses us. However, it (at least in the December 2007 issue), concentrates on the East Coast and pretty much ignores the rest of the country. Since the architectural styles differ a lot (there are very few cottages like those described in this issue in Colorado, even the one in Utah is an oddity, and the likelihood of finding anything like the Seth Peterson cottage designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is nonexistent), I would suggest that you include some mountain cabins (our version of the cottage) in your future issues."

Pros: Lots of great ideas for our cottage home we're building; wonderful recipes; garden ideas are exceptional

"I just recently discovered Cottage Living and can't seem to get enough of it; have found older issues in a local antique store for $1 each and have grabbed them up; ideas/recipes never go out of style; love the decorating ideas and how they make your home warm and inviting, helps me decorate to make my home stand out from the modern ones which I like; brings me down-to-earth to capture the warm, loving feelings of a cozy retreat; your gardening sections are helping me design a yard like no other too. Thanks Cottage Living."

Comfy & cozy!, June 9, 2007
By Niqi from Louisiana

"My husband and I spent four weeks in a cottage on the West Coast. It was comfy and cozy to say the least. I wanted to incorporate many of the cottage decor ideas into my own home. I subscribed to Cottage Living and am more than pleased with the magazine and all it has to offer!
Within its pages I'm transported back to our cottage on the West Coast!"

Great Motivation & Inspiration, April 21, 2007
By Ace

"Our first house was a 1917 bungalow. While we now live in a more modern abode, my cottage spirit still shines through. I was confused what to do with my 45 year old house until I found this mag. Inspirational stories, focus on neighborhoods (although they need to visit the midwest for affordable houses!), great food, and fun design ideas. I'm a working mom and this publication fires me up on the home front."

Cottage Living, March 25, 2007
By joyful from Southern California

"I thoroughly enjoy Cottage Living Magazine! I also subscribe to many other country magazines as well. Not only do I use this magazine for inspiration for my own "cottage", but also for my garden accessories craft business which is handpainting anything that works in the garden or home! I actually live in a "cottage" by the sea. ......about a block and 1/2 away although I do not have an ocean veiw....It is a lot of fun now that my small house that raised 3 daughters (with 1 full bath & shower)....is now considered a true cottage! I am enjoying it now for over 30 yrs........I loved this month's cottage gardens and I do have an old potato vine that hoovers over my large window and a darling little garden in an old iron bed! I love the magazine and I always come away with something new each and every month! Thank you."

Think It's Great, March 6, 2007
By MJL

"I subscribed to Cottage Living after reading a copy at my doctor's office. While I don't live in a traditional cottage, I do live in a small house, and have LIVED in a real cottage, for several years. I'm not sure what the reviewer was speaking of when he described a cottage as only for recreation. I've gotten great ideas and have found the magazine very entertaining. My only drawback with the magazine is when they feature a cottage that has large open interior spaces. But, more often than not, they stay focused to True Cottage LIVING."

misnamed, March 2, 2007
By wicketwood from Cottage living in New England

"I was really upset when I received my first copy of "Cottage Living." I expected a magazine that would give me some useful ideas about cottage living. What I found, however, was a publication put out by a publisher and an editor who weren't even familiar with the concept of a cottage; never mind having the ability of providing useful information about the same. I have owned and lived in a fair number of cottages and none compared with anything I saw in this magazine.
Cottages that I have known were small vacation homes located in a rural area usually near a body of water. A cottage is a cozy dwelling suitable for a weekend or summer getaway. It is rustic in nature, just one step above a shack. A cottage has no cellar and is supported by posts or blocks. It has only one floor and the eaves and exposed framing intrude into the living area. The inside is unfinished without either sheet rock or insulation. The name of the game is low maintenance.
Who wants to be painting when they could be recreating? A cottage is generally used for recreational living such as fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, swimming and snowmobiling. Cottages are regularly rented to tourists and summer vacationers as a source of income, as is the case with our cottage.
In conclusion, I saw nothing in "Cottage Living" that reflects cottage living in the real world. Rather than catering to subscribers like me,who belong to a unique niche, the publishers chose to cater to advertisers and let their ad-tail wag the dog. The original idea was a good one, but was eventually overcome by a desire to make money rather than fill the niche. I am disappointed in the magazine. It could have been much better than it is."

Cottage Living, March 12, 2006
By Diane from Lake Arrowhead CA

"I just want to say thank you for such a great magazine. My husband and I both look forward to receiving it. We really enjoyed the recipe for Chicken Soup in the January/February 2006 issue- I've already made it twice. My husband and I have been married for 25 years and I've made lots of soup- he says this is the best I've ever made! Thanks for a new family favorite."
